Hello Friends and Vsitors
Hope you are all well and fine
wherever you are ...
This time I`d like to write a little bit
about the new navigation, design and content at omkarmusic.com
I was not happy with having visitors
to navigate onto two menus at the top
and the center
like it was before.
So the first thing was to establish one browser compatible main menu
with viewable sub menus underneath.
browser compatible ?
yes, it means any browser on any computer system
is able to read the code
of the menu and can show you the right position
and the uniform look and feel.
also if you have javascript disabled,
still everything remains viewable.
For example, take a look of any site you visit often
with a pop up menu, often used with so called suckerfish technique.
when you hover over a part of the menu a pop up appears
showing you another part of navigation.
Now dissable javascript and on most sites the menu
is no more useable for some technical reasons.
And my stats in the back telling me only 67%
of visitors having javascript enabled.
That means most webmasters using those techniques
are dissapointing over 30% of their visitors
just with the basics like navigation.
So this was the challenge ...
using a technique for all browsers
and involving this javascript issue.
I`m using now the so called split technique
which gives you the comfort of navigating
through three major levels.
First are the basic tabs in the middle
of the site
and secondly the submenus underneath.
Third dimension you will se only if needed.
If you hit the tab `videos`
and then submenu `music`
you see at the right the red marked third level to navigate.
Some things yet have to be improved.
You`ll see what I mean when playing with it,
but the basics are set.
on the design part i set up the basics
with using a discreet color and mostly white
to have some room left for latter use of color accents
on some portions of the sites.
the virtual house is also renovated with new code
so your browser knows a bit faster
left is left and right is right.
The content has been refilled
due to received mails over the time.
Biggest portion was the question where to buy
my music.
I established the menu `Shop`
with a tabbed overview of music projects
and their associated major distributors.
It`s also always a good idea
to check your favorite shop or store
for some of my releases.
Because by the time new shop additions happening.
Another part was the question on how to
enable visitors to recommend the music more easily.
Independent releases are living by word of mouth.
Which currently happens nice and smoothly at myspace.
There is no label in the back or some promotion agency
hopping through the media and setting a hype for a band or artist.
For this part I found a component with a formular
visitors can send mails to friends for recommendation.
You will see it integrated on the main menu
`Tell a Friend`
and as a tab option on the shop site.
Happy word of mouth with it.
I`ll be glad to get some feedback
or a short note if any disfunction encountered at the site.
The last part for now is
to attach answered mails which are added to the FAQ section
as regards content.
Have a good time
love
Omkar
