Tuesday, 14 December 2010 19:48

Free song drop outOn December 15th Omkarmusic released free song and video "Drop out, Tune in".

The song is available at various MP3 portals, listed at the homepage link section
and is released under the terms of Creative Commons,

The associated video can be viewed at the recently fresh created omkarmusic youtube channel,
please update friendship and abo as the former channel will be closed soon.

About the song:

It was intended to continue the idea of music cooperation with artists and non artists
by composing around contributions of recorded spoken words
and to create a sequel to "Voices of Love".

But this year was somehow bound to fail,
mostly because participants couldn`t record close enough to the deadline of contribution.

After some consideration on how to maintain the idea of composing in conjunction with spoken words
and on how to compensate missing natural speakers, I experimented with several recording options
and finally settled with two basic production ideas.

The first was to use my own voice and to use it for harmonical startup.

When recorded, the voice was mangeled through several instances in the studio
until it became synthesized into a pad and a harmonic phrase.
You can hear both at the beginning and throughout the entire song.

The second production idea was of experimenting with voice synthesis.

Being total unexperienced on this topic, I had to do a research on the internet.
Going through several interesting homepages with speech demos, my provider of choice was Neospeech.

It could be a form of music art to work with robotic voices or similar desired electronic expressions,
but in my case I wanted to have natural sounding voices, at least as close as possible.

I also wanted to have a little language variation at some passages of the song
and Amrit Kaur Khalsa kindly translated the lyrics into Spanish,
which is "spoken" by voice synthesis as well.

Although the song is free to download and I do not make a penny with it,
I want to avoid potential legal issues,
so I give credit and copyright to Neospeech for the usage of voice synthesis.
The copyright for the usage of voice synthesis is under the terms of Creative Commons
which includes prohibition of commercial usage or any modification of the song material.

Speaking of the lyrics:

I have to smile a bit when calling it "lyrics",
but it is a song and a song has ... well ... lyrics, if any.

The source of the lyrics is Osho,
all I did was to re-arrange his words and adding a few
in order to have a better workflow according to the song structure.

Because of the idea of having spoken words on this song,
obviously something has to be spoken
and I found his words to be the most appropriate.

About Omkar:

For the last two years I decided to go more into the production aspects
of creating music and I worked with bands and artists,
just to follow the saying "learning by doing" (music production).

It was a very interesting journey into different genres
and I learned pretty much most things
I wouldn`t be able to learn when doing just solo projects.

To keep the story short, this site was not able to share the work
of the last two years with the public
and therefore could not produce news.

This is caused by the society, artists are members of,
their rules and conditions are dependend on the musician country
and from there restrictive at various levels and degrees.

After some discussions I came to the conclusion
to not run into any issues by publishing clips of some works
and to keep myself in the back.

I think, now is the right time to benefit from these production experiences
and to work on commercial solo album which should become published next year.

I`ll keep the site updated on this.
