One slogan of Universal Audio is:
`analog ears and digital minds`
and thats exactly what mixing with Universal Audio plugins is.
While writing about the DAW (Digital Audio Workstation)
needs to be precise and as clean as possible
and thats why my choice was Samplitude Pro,
there was a need for me to enhance the native plugins
on one more thing and that is this certain analog and warm sound
shipped with the plugins on the Universal Audio cards.
The UAD-1 and UAD-2 cards are to be plugged
on pci and pci-e slots on a computer
and have native UAD plugins already onboard
The default plugins can be expanded with additional plugins
depending on what kind of product bundle was purchased.
like compressors, eq`s, room, hall, dealy
and modal additions like chorus or filters
with the brandnew moog filter.
The UAD cards are known to be very picky though
due to the components of a computer
and luckily enough I had no problems
with running Samplitude and UAD card together.
The plugins can be implemented on a mix
like any other native plugin stored on a harddrive.
The difference is, the Universal Audio plugins
do not consume CPU power,
since they use the chip power of the cards they are on.
So the big plus for me was to have
two features at once:
1. to relieve the workload of the CPU and
2. to add a unique coloration of analog sound when needed
but the current work on the upcoming album
are in progress with both studio elements
and I am pleased with the results.
When I need this certain `Oooomph` on the bottom of a kick,
crunch on a snare, the punch on the drum buss,
the warmth on a piano track or guitar record.
My records are commonly without vocals,
but just to mention it here,
the UAD plugins like the la2a compressor are professional standards.
My topic mix tests with room and hall
using UAD plate-140, dreamverb and realverb pro
are pretty satisfying.
I cannot reproduce the warm color and dimension of the plate-140
with any other plugin.
As a conclusion I would say, highly recommended,
if an analog coloration in the mix is needed and wanted.
